Stopping an agent
What Stop agent does, what a paused or braked agent is, and what the platform kill switch does. Exits and withdrawals keep working in every case.
There are four different ways an agent can stop trading. They are easy to mix up, so here they are side by side.
| What | Who or what triggers it | What stops | What keeps working |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop agent (real money) | You, on Funds, with one wallet approval | The agent's permission to trade is removed on the exchange. It cannot place any order. | Withdrawals. Your money stays in the trading account. |
| Paused | Setup not finished (a new real-money agent starts paused until it is funded), or an operator | No new decisions | Open positions and their exits (see below) |
| Braked | The agent's own limits: daily loss or drawdown (see Risk limits) | New risk (opening or increasing positions) | Exits: stop-loss, take-profit, trailing and reducing orders |
| Kill switch | Tradent, platform-wide, for an incident | New risk for every real-money agent | Exits, owner actions, withdrawals and stopping agents |
Stop agent#
Stop agent is on each live agent's card on Funds. It asks you to approve one transaction, and then the agent's permission to trade on your trading account is removed on the exchange itself. From that moment even a copy of the agent's key is useless.
- Effect
- Removes the agent's permission to trade, right on the exchange
- Open positions
- Stay open until you close them or withdraw
- Later
- You can start it again
Keep trading closes the dialog without doing anything.
- Your money stays where it is. It remains in the trading account until you withdraw it or restart the agent.
- Withdrawing still works for a stopped agent.
- Restart brings it back: Funds shows a Restart button, which takes you through Go live again (choose the amount, approve once).
- The paper agent is not affected. Only the live copy stops.
Paused and braked agents#
A paused agent makes no decisions. A braked agent is held back by its own safety limits: after losing more than its daily-loss limit in a UTC day, or after a drawdown beyond its limit, new risk is refused until the condition clears. Exits keep running in both cases, so an agent can always get out of a position it holds. These are trading states: your money and withdrawals are unaffected.
The kill switch#
If something goes wrong on our side (a bug, a venue incident, a suspected key leak), we can flip a platform-wide kill switch. While it is on:
- Real-money agents make no new risk: opens and increases are refused, and the signer refuses any order that is not a reduce-only exit or a cancel.
- Exits still work. Stop-loss, take-profit and trailing exits from the keeper, and reduce-only closes, are never blocked by the kill switch or by pilot caps.
- You can still withdraw and stop agents. Those actions need only your wallet and do not depend on the switch.
When the incident is resolved the switch is turned off and agents resume at their next decision.
